The Pop Shoppe Lime Ricky

I opened this last night with supper: 

Brand: The Pop Shoppe Lime Ricky

Origin: Ontario, Canada.

Purchase Place: Blue Sun Soda, Spring Lake Park, MN.

Sweetener: Cane Sugar.

Review: This was appropriately tart. It was more tart than just a lime soda - if you want just a "lime" soda, this won't be what you're after. The tartness adds a nice layer to this. It's still sweet, but then that sweetness it cut with that little tart. Nothing special, but a decent soda!

A Cherry Lime Rickey (and Ice Cream) at Cold Front

Whoa. It's been a while, Cold Front. Looking at my "Cold Front" tag (which has some CUTE pictures of my LITTLE boys from years ago), I haven't been in to visit in over 2 years! But I promised the boys we'd stop in sometime this week, so we did 2 days ago.

My boys went straight for the ice cream!

Charlie went for Superman...

... and Henry went with the SUPER dark brownie-like Zanzibar Chocolate.

And I went for a cherry lime rickey!

Henry's ice cream was very good - very fudge-like and brownie-like. He got it ALL over his face.

My cherry lime rickey was sharp and sweet. I didn't think the boys would like it as it's very lime-heavy (and then it turns bright red with just a little addition of cherry syrup), but they both asked for a 2nd and 3rd sip. I probably only got about half of it. It was quite sour (in a good way), but that made it a "sipping" soda, and not a "chugging" soda.

I picked up an ice cream punch card, so now we have 2 punches on our way to a free ice cream cone after a total of 9. We'll be back!

Whistler Lime Rickey Soda

I opened this with lunch just now: 

Brand: Whistler Lime Rickey Soda.

Origin: Spring Lake Park, MN.

Purchase Place: Blue Sun Soda, Spring Lake Park, MN.

Sweetener: Sugar.

Review: This is SUPER neon looking. And it was good. The lime flavor was very smooth verging ALMOST on "milky" (but not quite). It nearly had a "grasshopper" quality to it (talking about the adult beverage). It wasn't overly sweet, and went down easy. A solid soda!

AJ Stephans Raspberry Lime Rickey

I took a risk on this one...

Brand: AJ Stephans Raspberry Lime Rickey.

Origin: Fall River, Massachusetts.

Purchase Place: Frattallones Ace Hardware, St. Paul, MN.

Sweetener: Cane Sugar.

Review: I was expecting a "strange" bite to this, but it was good. The raspberry was very sweet and reminded me a BIT of an Icee from Target. And then there was just the perfect little hint of lime at the end - it wasn't too overpowering or nasty. It was good and went down fast!

Score: 7 out of 10.

New Stash of Sodas!

Easter is this weekend, which means Lent will be over, which means I will be able to drink soda again! In celebration for this glorious day, I headed to Frattallone's Ace Hardware on Grand Ave in St. Paul earlier today to stock up on soda. But I encountered some bad news! They had NO root beer left on their shelves!!

Lots of empty spots where root beer once was.
(And technically, there's 1 diet root beer left on the 2nd shelf next to the blue stuff.)

This marks the first time a "stock up" of soda didn't include a root beer. Depressing. Here's what I brought home:

Lynden's Black Cherry Lime Rickey

My son and I stopped by Lynden's Soda Fountain late last week for a treat. We'd been there twice before: once for some root beer, and once when we were invited back by the owner because the first time someone put ice in my root beer. We walked in and saw this special:

SOLD!

I watched the "jerk" (the name for people who work at a soda fountain) squeeze an entire lime half into my glass. And she added syrup, flavoring, and soda water.

It didn't last too long...

I worked on my Rickey as my son enjoyed some ice cream (and he liked the swivel stools too).

Some goodies that I brought home for my wife.

My son actually liked the Lime Rickey as well. He took a few sips 2 different times. That surprised me a bit because it was so tart from the lime. But he liked it!


Brand: Lynden's Black Cherry Lime Rickey.

Origin: St. Paul, MN.

Purchase Place: Lynden's Soda Fountain (corner of Hamline and Randolf in St. Paul).

Sweetener: Simple syrup (so I'm assuming sugar, but I'm not sure and forgot to ask).

Review: Like the Root Beer and Sarsaparilla that I had at Lynden's last winter, this Black Cherry Lime Rickey was very "sharp" and "crisp." I think that must be from it being made "fresh" with soda water straight out of the soda fountain. It was a great summer drink. The lime was nice and tart. In fact, it was a bit too tart for me: ideally, it'd have half as much lime and double the syrup (you all know how I like things pretty sugary). I might go back for a Cherry Lime Rickey sometime and ask it to be made that way.
